St Albans City 0 Leyton Orient 5
ORIENT boss Russell Slade hailed his new-look strike pairing after they combined to net four of the five goals put past St Albans City on Friday evening.
New signing Alex Revell began the game up front alongside Scott McGleish and took just eight minutes to open his account, when he received a pass from Adam Chambers and slotted past home keeper Michael Emery.
Not to be outdone, McGleish then netted a seven-minute hat-trick towards the end of the first period. Revell turned provider for his first on 37 minutes, by cutting back from the byline, before Stephen Dawson and Chambers supplied futher ammunition to the veteran, who was replaced at half time.
"I wanted the team to lift the bar a little bit from our first outing and I think we did that tonight," said Slade, speaking after the game.
"We passed the ball better, didn't turn it over so much and looked a little more organised, which is natural. Our movement was better than expected too - I was really pleased with that.
"It's always good for confidence when you score five goals, particularly for the frontmen when they're scoring themselves, so I'm pleased for Scotty and Revs.
"We had ample opportunities to score tonight and we took them well."
Slade made four substitutions at half time, and a further five in the second half as a number of youngsters were given the chance to impress him with the victory already secured.
Orient added the final goal to their tally on 81 minutes when another new signing, creative central midfielder Matthew Spring, lashed a shot in from 25 yards out.
Orient: Jones (Butcher, h/t), Omozusi (Beautyman, 63), Forbes (Millwood, 63), Chorley (Cestor, 63), Gillet; Jarvis (Smith, h/t), Spring, Chambers (Eagle, h/t), Dawson (Patulea, 63), McGleish (Argent, h/t), Revell (Porter, 53).
