Oral history of Bengalis generations heard at Museum

15 September 2006
TALES of three generations of Bengalis in Britain can be heard at the Museum in Docklands on Tuesday.

A new book and exhibition based on oral history will be launched by the Swadhinata Trust.

The Trust, which is based in Greatorex Street in Whitechapel, has collected material on three themes.

Grandparents and grandchildren talk about the war of independence in 1971 for 'roots and memory'.

There are also conversations about welfare and community in the UK during the 1970s and 1980s.

The final section looks at music and popular culture, with help from all three generations.

Guest speakers from the Oral History Society and Heritage Lottery Fund join the launch in West India Quay on Tuesday evening.

There will also be Baul songs by Ektara and Bengali refreshments at the museum in Hertsmere Road.
