Young put Stratford's re-birth in the picture
20 July 2010
SCHOOL children have taken up their cameras and paints to document 'The Story of Stratford' for a free, family-friendly exhibition currently running at East Thames Group's 'East Gallery' West Ham Lane.
Running until September 3, with a family workshop on Saturday between 12 and 3pm, opening times are: Monday - Friday: 10am-5.30pm and Sat: 10am -1.30pm.
The exhibition is a culmination of a two-year project commissioned by Westfield Stratford City that looks at what the regeneration of Stratford means to local young people and their families.
John Burton, Director of Westfield Stratford City, said: "We commissioned 'The Story of Stratford' public arts programme as a means of local young people being able to connect with their environment and learn more about its past, present and future during a time of major regeneration activity within Stratford.
"Working with Helen Marshall and A New Direction, the young people have taken part in a series of arts-based programmes ranging from archaeological digs to photography projects, and have learnt a great deal about Newham and its history. We hope that this exhibition will enable more people within Newham and the wider community to learn more about the developments taking place around.
