NHS Lifesavers at health event had all the right information
26 July 2010
IN a colourful event on Thursday, NHS Newham's Lifesavers were at The Project Surgery in Plaistow to talk to visitors about spotting the signs and symptoms of breast, lung and bowel cancer early.
There were doctors on hand and the offer of health checks with face painting and a bubble blowing machine to keep children amused while their parents could enjoy massages and manicures from the charity Cancer You Are Not Alone.
Dr. Farzana Hussain, GP from the Project Surgery, said: "It was great to see so many people and families from the Newham wanting to know more about their health.
"Early detection of cancer and treatment can save lives. It is important to notice any changes that are not normal for you as there may be many reasons why you have these signs and symptoms and to contact your GP about these changes."
* Newham Lifesavers is a project where NHS Newham works with local Lifesaver trainees who talk to local people in their community so that they can recognise the early signs and symptoms of cancer.
