Three charged after a second East Ham church raid

Three people have appeared at Thames Magistrates for immigration offences after a second swoop by UK Border police in East Ham.

Officers from the London Immigration Team raided the historic St Mary Magdalene on Norman Road at 4pm in Thursday, striking as the would-be-bride and groom arrived for a rehearsal at the church on Norman Way

A 33-year-old Nigerian woman was charged with perjury, fraud and two offences under the ID Cards Act and was sent to appear at Snaresbrook Crown Court on October 5.

Also appearing at Snaresbrook on the same day is a 41-year-old Nigerian man was charged under the ID Cards Act following a search of a property in Canning Town.

A 34-year-old Czech man was charged with facilitation of a false marriage and his case was adjourned until July 30 at the court in Bow.
